Homeowners Urged To Monitor Helicopter Noise During ‘Carmageddon II’

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — With “Carmegeddon II” fast approaching, homeowners in the Encino and Sherman Oaks area are dreading the return of the helicopters.

This weekend, transportation officials will close a 10-mile stretch of Interstate 405 between the Santa Monica (10) Freeway and the Ventura (101) Freeway to finish demolishing the north side of the Mulholland Drive bridge.

As officials prepare for the closure – and issue reminders about the impending closure – legislators want homeowners to monitor the traffic and helicopter noise.

“Short story is, yeah, it’s gonna be a problem. It’s gonna wake us all up and its gonna be annoying,” Danny, who lives right at the top of the Sepulveda Pass, told KNX 1070’s Pete Demetriou.

Congressman Howard Berman, along with state and county officials, are urging residents to keep an ear on this weekend’s chopper noise.

If it becomes unbearable, Berman says he may increase pressure on the FAA to consider regulating helicopter traffic over the Los Angeles basin.
